So yesterday on the way back down to the shore house, I stopped off at our local Borders.  It, like all the others, has a huge yellow GOING OUT OF BUSINESS sign plastered across the front that breaks my heart.  I’ve always preferred Borders out of the big box stores and to see it close is just devastating.

I pulled my usual perusal of the depleted shelves and grabbed anything that caught my eye.  I ended up with a stack of ten books that ran me just shy of $45 that should last me a couple months, if all goes well.  This is the first of the ten - Kate Rockwell’s Falling Is Like This, about a girl my age who gets caught up in a romance with the equivalent of Greg Attonito from the Bouncing Souls - an older punk rock veteran living in the East Village.

The whole time I’ve been reading I’ve pictured everything she’s talked about.  I relate so much to Harper, minus the obvious Jewishness.  Part of me still craves the scene, but the rest of me knows how bloody dead it is.
