I have noticed an interesting amount of unsourced fanworks being spread around recently
and I would like to bring to your attention a really cool little internet tool that’s free and open for your use:
if you happen to find or have a fanart saved to a file and have no clue where the original source is
FOR GOD’S SAKE, USE THIS
especially if said fanart looks as if it came from pixiv, because 97% of the time saucenao can accurately locate works from there
IF SAUCENAO FAILS YOU
there is another method you can use, WHICH YOU CAN READ ALL ABOUT HERE.
if that fails you too, I want you to stop for a moment and think
is it REALLY necessary that I post this work without sourcing the original artist?
if the answer is ‘yes’, at least request in the text portion for someone to help you find the original source
and for the love of god, DO NOT make the source your own fucking blog
holy shit this is awesome and you should feel awesome for spreading this knowledge
http://saucenao.com/tools/ everyone should get this all you have to do is rightclick an image that is unsourced and it sticks it into reverse image Google or SauceNao (other engines are available too but I usually get the job done w/ either of them)
so yum
DO NOT make the source your own fucking blog
can i reblog this sentence again and again
My sister has her artwork frequently ganked with no source. It’s really getting tiring because I watch her draw and actually SEE the effort she puts into it - it’s her heart and soul, and to see something she’s done go around with people wanting it for a tattoo or turning it into poorly photoshopped graphic is akin to stabbing her. On top of that, it’s considered art theft. So please, think before you post.
