Whitesnake-“Here I Go Again”

I know, I missed Wednesday. Sorry. I’ll catch up.

Back in high school, I was really into metal.  Yeah, I loved Metallica, and Megadeth and Iron Maiden, but I also liked Aerosmith and Motley Crue and Whitesnake.  I remember the first mix CD I made: it featured seven hair metal songs.

Anyway, we all grow out of that phase in our lives.

So fast forward 9 years.  I’m on an improv team in New York called Kickable Dog.  Often after our teams practice, we would go to Triple Crown in Chelsea and get drunk.  (It came to the point where the waitresses knew our names and we would have long conversations with them about their lives…)

Anyway, one day Triple Crown was blasting only hair metal. They cycled through Whitesnake, then played the greatest hit of Great White, then they reminded us of Warrant and The Scorpions, and predictably, Def Leppard.  Finally, I just got too drunk to want to listen to that.  So, me and Frollo started singing Bruce Springsteen songs very very loudly.  It turned into a drunken sing-a-long, starting with “Thunder Road” and “The River” and “Rosalita” and “Sandy (4th of July Asbury Park)”, and then moving on to Rolling Stones songs where we were joined by Ryan Williams.

Zach Woods (currently of The Office) was hanging out with us and called me and Frollo a bunch of “Real Old-Timey Drunks”.  That may have been the best compliment we could have gotten.

This is the best story I have ever read, and to the person manning Songjournal for the month, you are too fucking metal for one hand.  Much love.
