This is related to something called entitlement which I don’t want to dig into here. What I’m saying is that the world is changing, and it can be hard to understand, and I think that causes knees to jerk. […] I see a bunch of entitled nerds refusing to understand that rape jokes can seriously fuck rape survivors up emotionally (and sometimes physically), thinking they can “take rape jokes back” when really, rape jokes were never theirs to begin with. And I don’t buy the “jokes take away rape’s power” argument. Jokes deflate serious conversations about rape and sexual violence and gender inequality and misogyny that are long overdue in western culture, to say nothing about America.”
