I am so stoked to have a werecat that ISN’T intended to be the villain/general bitch/negative nancy character. Toralei and the twins have gorgeous designs, and I did eventually get them, but MAN I hate their characters in the webisodes/specials. Hell, in Rochelle’s diary they’re even trying to seriously injure Ghoulia by detouring her scooter into potholes. Though they aren’t nearly as bad as Nefera, whose character I hate so much there’s no way in hell I’ll ever get the doll.
Caterine looks to be from that new Scaris line that’s coming out that I’m looking more and more forward to after learning that both Skelita and Jinafire were designed by and/or heavily worked on by ACTUAL POCs. (At the SDCC panel, the woman who designed Skelita said she drew from her own family experiences and that Jinafire was designed with a great deal of help from the overseas design team). I was hella worried because I know that it is so easy to cross the appropriation line, even when you don’t intend to. I’m gonna bring back the FOUR FOR YOU MONSTER HIGH, YOU GO MONSTER HIGH from before.
I know there’s a lot of backlash on the LJ community because she’s not the Daugher of Arachne/AJ/Widowna but honestly? I feel like the costs to make Widowna would just be super prohibitive (extra arms, clothes that would only be able to work on her and no other doll, etc) so I’m willing to bet good money she’ll be the SDCC exclusive next year. I mean, it’s not even like Scarah who is a pretty well-noticed background character - I’ve never seen Widowna ANYWHERE in the show.
Though it would be pretty nifty if she were released to be in a band with Operetta, since they’ve both got kind of a music thing going on and have kind of a southern flair to them. Hmm.
Seriously though, can we cool it with the exclusives? Headmistress Bloodgood is a TRU exclusive, the superhero dolls are going to be a Target exclusive, and Caterine is going to be a Walmart exclusive? C’mon, Mattel. Remember the distribution problems with Sweet 1600 Cupid (which I saw a grand total of ONE time in the stores) and the Werewolf sisters (which I’m STILL trying to find, and if anyone out there in internet land happens to find one, I will pay you original cost plus shipping for the set so long as both dolls aren’t wonked)? Please stop :(
