Today Karyn and Alistaire and I packed up my sorrows and went to the Asian Food Market in North Plainfield. Ever since Kamkeu closed we’ve been on the hunt for a closer market, and honestly I was super happy.
Every time I go to Mitsuwa, I play this game where I have to get something that I a) can’t read what it is and b) have never had before. Today’s purchases, not my pictures:
- Taro brittle. Holy shit is this a HUGE SURPRISE OF DELICIOUS. I’m a big fan of taro but I had no idea if this was going to be sweet or savory. (It’s savory!) And oh boy is it wonderful. I will definitely be buying this again.
- Everyone Says Good Good Eat: GGE Original and GGE Soy Sauce Ramen flavors. I’ve been searching for a replacement for the Dodekai Babystar products since I haven’t been able to find them ANYWHERE in years, and this is a damn good substitute! They do have MSG, though, so if that’s a migraine trigger for you it may be best to avoid.
- Milk candy. Not sure of the brand for this since I cannot read Japanese, but it’s a tasty vanilla-y milk-y chewy candy.
- Custard bread. A little starchy than I was hoping but it’s still tasty. Probably won’t get again.
- Pudding marshmallows! I know and love pudding marshmallows and ended up buying three bags since I haven’t had them in FOREVAR.
Either way, stoked there is food and even though I have to miss out on both my best friend’s wedding and reuniting with my best expat bro at least maybe I can try and get SOME kind of happy in here.
