OK, I don’t usually make posts like these, but this just happened to me and it makes me really angry and I want to make sure no one falls for this.
I just went outside to bring in my trashcan from the curb when I noticed a delivery slip, pictured above, on my door. I thought it was really strange because I had gone out a while before (at around 10PM) and there was no notice on my door. Which means the delivery notice was posted sometime between 10PM and Midnight which just creeps the fuck out of me for some reason.
The slip has everything you would expect to find on a delivery notice. It has a date, a package number and a telephone number that you can supposedly call to arrange your package delivery. Because I know I did not have any packages coming for me and because I had never heard the name of this so-called delivery company before, I decided to do a quick Google search on the company, which is called “SoundAir”.Boy, am I glad I did. This is not a real delivery slip. This company makes up phony delivery slips and attaches them to people’s door. The goal is to get you to call them and schedule a delivery. They do this so they can both get your phone number and go to your house under false pretenses. When the company arrives at your house, they will not deliver you a package, but instead do a sales pitch for an air filter that costs thousands of dollars. Some reviews online that I saw entailed some frightening things, including one couple who literally had to physically remove the sales rep from their house at 10:30 PM after he refused to leave the house without making a sale.
Others report senior citizens being targeted and drained of their limited savings from the scam and still others report being harassed several times a day on the phone and having sales reps violently pound on their door when they refuse to answer, to the point where police had to be called. Former sales reps for the company say that they were pressured to intrude on people’s privacy and to target the elderly, those who have limited English ability and the mentally challenged who the company executives feel can be easily deceived into buying the product.
If you receive one of these slips, do not call the number listed and do not give them any personal information or you will become a target. The best thing to do is to contact the BBB (Better Business Bureau) or your State Attorney General’s office and file a complaint against the company.Most of the reviews online seemed to come from the North Eastern United States but recently they have been submitted from all over the country, so please be aware.
